The Astrogoblin Comment Shop Picker transforms Patreon Creator's post comments into an immersive, Star Wars-inspired holographic galaxy experience. Each comment becomes a star in a 3D constellation, with star size reflecting the number of likes. Navigate through the galaxy, hover over stars to read comments, and save your favorites for review.
NOTE: This tool only displays post details for Creators. Campaign subscribers cannot use this to view details for other creators. This is a limitation in the Patreon API. (See the FAQ)
This is a limitation of the Patreon API, not the application. Patreon's API only allows creators to access comment data from posts they've created on their own campaign. You cannot retrieve comments from posts made by other creators, even if you're a subscriber of theirs.
Patreon puts this restriction in place to protect creator privacy and ensure that sensitive patron data is only accessible to the appropriate campaign owners.
For fun. Every week, Astrogoblin creates a Comment Shop thread where subscribers can submit ideas for the crew to turn into Photoshop masterpieces.
Jacob visualized the comments in his mind this way, so I tried to make the website match his vision. Astrogoblin has nothing to do with creating or owning this site, although I'd gladly turn it over to them if they'd like to use it.
This tool creates a different visual style for Creators to interact with their post content. You can identify popular comments (those with the most likes) and export the data for review.
This application is hosted on Render, a cloud platform for hosting web applications. The code is open source and can be found in my GitHub if you'd like to review it or host your own.
All authentication is handled securely through Patreon's OAuth system, no comment data is stored on the server, everything is processed in real-time and exists only in your browser session.
Yes, your Patreon credentials are never exposed or stored by this application. Authentication is handled entirely through Patreon's official OAuth system, which means you're logging in directly with Patreon.
Comment data is fetched in real-time from Patreon's API and is only stored temporarily in your browser session. Once you close the page or end your session, the data is gone. We don't maintain any database of comments or user information.
When you authenticate with Patreon, this app requests the following permissions:
These are read-only permissions. The app cannot post, edit, or delete anything on your Patreon account.
Star size in the galaxy visualization is based on the number of likes each comment has received. Comments with more likes appear as larger, brighter stars, making it easy to identify the most popular responses at a glance.
Additionally, saved stars appear golden and slightly larger, while comments you've already read shrink and turn gray to help you track what you've reviewed.
While the application is accessible on mobile devices, the 3D galaxy experience is optimized for desktop browsers. The interactive features (rotation, zoom, hover tooltips) work best with a mouse and keyboard.
For the best experience, I recommend using a desktop or laptop with a modern browser like Chrome, Firefox, or Edge.
This application uses WebGL for 3D rendering and requires a modern browser. Supported browsers include:
Make sure your browser has hardware acceleration enabled for the best performance.
